About Us
The de Ferrers Academy is the largest school in Staffordshire, with around 2,200 students split across Dove and Trent campuses. It was originally a Specialist Technology College and is now part of The de Ferrers Multi Academy Trust. The Academy has a comprehensive intake of students from ages 11 to 18 with excellent results.
Trent Campus (ages 14-18) is fully 1:1 iPad, with every students and teacher having their own device. In September 2013 it became an Apple Regional Training Centre and in December 2015 it became an Apple Distinguished Program School. The Academy has 2 Apple Distinguished Educators and an Apple Education Trainer on its staff and is globally recognised for its work on the leadership and effective use of learning technologies.
In 2015-2016 The de Ferrers Academy began to release a range of free digital textbooks for students and teachers at www.itunes.com/deferrers including an exciting collaboration with Initial Teacher Training students from The University of Nottingham.
Team
The GIGS Project at The de Ferrers Academy is being led by Rosie Harrison (Teacher of Science/Chemistry) and Greg Hughes (Vice Principal and Teacher of Physics), both of whom are passionate about using technology to improve engagement and learning in Science for all students.
Project Involvement
We are the lead UK school for the GIGS Project, helping to develop and trial some of the original STEM challenges with our students. We also bring a lot of experience in creating and publishing digital, multitouch books.
